Your Vasectomy journey

Vasectomy Consultation
Step 1
Consultation

Your private consultation is carried out in-clinic with one of our experienced doctors. During this appointment, your clinician will assess your individual needs, review your medical history, and guide you step-by-step through the vasectomy procedure. Every question is answered thoroughly, ensuring you feel fully informed, comfortable, and confident before proceeding.

Vasectomy Preperation
Step 2
Preperation

Our preparation phase is designed to deliver a seamless, luxury experience. Your dedicated patient coordinator will stay in direct contact with you via phone and email, confirming your procedure date, arranging your private medical suite, and handling all pre-procedure requirements. They will also organise any necessary testing and remain available for reassurance or guidance at every stage. The process is discreet, smooth, and tailored entirely around you.

Vasectomy Procedure
Step 3
Procedure

On the day of your vasectomy, your doctor will perform the procedure using the traditional scalpel method, a trusted and highly effective approach. A local anaesthetic is applied first, ensuring the area is completely numb so you should not feel any pain during the procedure-only light pressure or movement at most. The doctor then makes a small incision to access and seal the vas deferens. The entire process usually takes 15-30 minutes and is carried out with meticulous care to maximise comfort, safety, and results.

Vasectomy Recovery
Step 4
Recovery

Following your procedure, you will be guided into your private recovery suite, where our team will ensure you are comfortable and well looked after. You'll receive clear, personalised aftercare instructions, along with direct access to your coordinator for any questions that arise. Most patients resume routine activities within a few days, and a follow-up semen analysis will confirm when the vasectomy is fully effective. Your care continues until you're fully recovered and confidently cleared.

How does a vasectomy work?
How does a vasectomy work?
The effective, permanent solution

A vasectomy works by safely interrupting the pathway that sperm travel through, preventing them from mixing with semen during ejaculation. Normally, sperm are produced in the testicles and move through two tubes called the vas deferens before being released as part of the ejaculate. During a vasectomy, these tubes are accessed and sealed, meaning sperm can no longer enter the semen. The rest of the reproductive system continues to function exactly as before.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, so the area is completely numb and no pain is felt. The doctor makes a small incision in the scrotum using the scalpel method, then gently locates the vas deferens. Each tube is carefully divided and sealed-often by tying, clipping, or using heat-ensuring sperm cannot pass through. Once both sides are treated, the incision is closed. The entire process typically takes less than 30 minutes.

Importantly, a vasectomy does not affect testosterone levels, libido, ejaculation, erections, or overall sexual function. The only change is that sperm are no longer present in the semen. Your body continues to produce sperm as normal, but because they cannot travel past the sealed tubes, they are naturally reabsorbed by the body-a completely harmless and ongoing process.

After the procedure, effective contraception is still required for a short period. This is because some sperm may remain in the vas deferens beyond the sealed point. A follow-up semen analysis is arranged to confirm when your ejaculate is completely sperm-free. Once you receive medical clearance, the vasectomy is considered over 99% effective as a long-term contraceptive method.

Vasectomy FAQs
Is a vasectomy reversible?

A vasectomy is considered a permanent form of contraception. Reversal procedures (vasovasostomy or vasoepididymostomy) are sometimes possible, but success rates vary widely and decline the longer it has been since the original vasectomy. Even when the tubes are reconnected, fertility is not guaranteed. Anyone choosing a vasectomy should do so with the expectation that it is permanent.

Can you still ejaculate after a vasectomy?

Yes. Ejaculation remains essentially the same. Semen volume only decreases by around 2-5%, which is usually unnoticeable. The only difference is that sperm are no longer present in the ejaculate once you have been medically cleared after follow-up semen testing.

How long does a vasectomy take?

A standard vasectomy typically takes 15-30 minutes. It is performed under local anaesthetic, and you can go home the same day. No-scalpel techniques often reduce procedure time and recovery discomfort.

How long after a vasectomy can you have sex?

Most men can resume sexual activity after about 7 days, provided they feel comfortable. However, contraception is still required until a post-vasectomy semen analysis confirms that no sperm remain. This often takes 8-12 weeks and a certain number of ejaculations, depending on the clinic protocol.

Does a vasectomy hurt?

You may feel a brief sting from the anaesthetic injection, followed by pressure or pulling sensations during the procedure-not sharp pain. Afterward, mild aching, bruising, or swelling is common for a few days. Over-the-counter pain relief and supportive underwear usually keep discomfort minimal.

Does a vasectomy lower testosterone?

No. A vasectomy does not affect testosterone production. The testicles continue to make hormones normally, so energy levels, muscle mass, mood, and other testosterone-related functions remain unchanged.

How long after a vasectomy can I drive a car?

Most men can drive again within 24-48 hours, as long as they feel comfortable and are not taking medication that impairs judgment. Avoid long drives in the first few days to minimise pressure and swelling.

How effective is a vasectomy?

Vasectomy is one of the most effective forms of contraception, with a success rate of over 99%. Once post-procedure semen analysis confirms that no sperm remain, pregnancy risk becomes extremely low.

What happens to sperm after a vasectomy?

Your body continues to produce sperm, but because the tubes (vas deferens) are sealed, the sperm cannot mix with semen. Instead, they are naturally reabsorbed by the body. This process is harmless and occurs continuously without you noticing.

Do vasectomies affect libido?

No. A vasectomy does not change sex drive. Testosterone levels remain the same, and most men report that their libido, erections, and sexual function are unchanged. Some even experience improved confidence due to reduced anxiety about unplanned pregnancy.
